Yesterday I left the Shortline Bus Terminal at Port Authority to embark on my research trip to Ithaca, NY to visit Cornell University's Carl A. Kroch Library's Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. They have a pretty incredible hip hop archive just completed in August 2008, with hundreds of sound recordings, party and club flyers, handpainted textile art and a collection of some of hip hop's first photographs by Joe Conzo. All of this awesomeness awaited me just in time for the big noreaster. Luckily, I holed up in a Best Western near campus with heat, chinese take-out, and two double beds just for me.
Before my arrival, as I slept on the bus, I could tell something was on its way. Here is what I awoke to find outside my window.
